IMDb New Filmmaker Award Tonight

We’re getting excited about the IMDb New Filmmaker Award evening, tonight at 6pm (GMT).

Tonight’s award ceremony will take place online. Even though it won’t have the usual glitz of a FilmBath awards evening, it will be a chance to come together, albeit via webcam, to celebrate the filmmakers and everyone who has helped make AMPLIFY! a (virtual) reality.

Meet the judges

Tonight, director Coky Giedroyc, producer Amanda Posey, and IMDb CEO Col Needham will be watching and deliberating over the shortlist of films to crown FilmBath’s 9th IMDb New Filmmaker Award winner.

Coky Giedroyc | Director

You’ve probably encountered the work of Coky Giedroyc even if you don’t know it.

Over the last 30 years, Coky has been operating behind TV cameras directing hits for the small screen, such as BAFTA-nominated The Virgin Queen from 2006; Wuthering Heights with Tom Hardy; episodes of Penny Dreadful in 2014; Harlots, now on the BBC; and, most recently, Save Me on Sky Atlantic.

She is also highly adept at creating feature films, evident in her irresistibly exuberant How to Build a Girl released earlier this year, and Women Talking Dirty from 1999, starring Polly Steele and Helena Bonham Carter. Coky’s extensive directorial experience makes her perfect to judge the winner of the 2020 IMDb New Filmmaker Award.

Amanda Posey | Producer

Producers not only know how to get a film made, they know what makes a film work.

Amanda Posey has worked on brilliant movies with powerful female leads, such as Carey Mulligan in An Education and Saoirse Ronan in Brooklyn. She won a BAFTA for her work on the latter and has been twice nominated for the Best Picture Oscar. Her insight into the craft and guile needed to make a film will be invaluable when it comes to making the final call tonight

Behind every movie buff is IMDb (that’s the Internet Movie Database, for the uninitiated). The go-to compendium of cinematic facts, figures, and credits for the digital age, the IMDb – FilmBath collaboration is 9 years old and going strong.

Since its launch in 1990, IMDb has expanded to list over 6 million titles and over 10 million personalities, and amassed 83 million registered users – and the founder and CEO, Col Needham always brings joy, enthusiasm and insight to the IMDb Awards.
