FilmBath is a registered charity (#1080952) and we thrive and survive thanks to a massive team of dedicated volunteers. These include full and part time work placements, a programming team, a digital marketing group, and our board of Trustees – plus stewards, projectionists, marketeers, photographers and filmmakers.

Applications for volunteering for this year’s film festival have closed.

Why might you want to volunteer for FilmBath? Let some of our previous volunteers tell you about their experiences:

“Working for BFF was a really great experience; I met amazing people, learned invaluable knowledge and felt inspired to make change. It tops all of my work experience (including paid production work) and I am so thankful that I didn’t miss this opportunity.”

“November 2016 was the first time I volunteered with the Festival. I did not know what to expect, but I was rewarded with a wonderful experience. Varied tasks included: film booklet mailshot, the distribution of display posters, and on the door activities at various cinemas. The added bonus was that you were part of a wonderful team, under the leadership of Holly, that included all age groups and all nationalities. I have made new friends and gained valuable experience, all while seeing enjoyable and thought provoking films.”

“It was a real pleasure to be a part of such an excited, enthusiastic and driven team of people. I think that as an unpaid placement it’s really important to feel motivated – Holly does a really fantastic job of making sure of that. It’s bizarre, but I felt so much more invested in this role than ANY other paid role I’ve had!”

“It is not an exaggeration to say that volunteering at Bath Film Festival during my second year at University changed my life. I learned so much about myself, with Holly and the rest of the team always having confidence in my abilities, even when I didn’t have confidence in myself. Volunteering at BFF 2015 has helped me to decide what I want to do after I finish my course, and I hope to continue volunteering with FilmBath for as long as I am able to.”

“Working for the festival was a brilliant experience. I loved meeting and collaborating with the creative, enthusiastic and passionate team of volunteers to produce a festival. As well as being a lot of fun, the Festival Assistant work placement gave me an insight into working in events and helped me secure my current job in an arts organisation.”

“I had a great four months working as Festival Assistant for Bath Film Festival 2014. Each day was varied and I gained fantastic insight into how a festival works. Working for the festival was a brilliant experience and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in film and events. The experience led directly to paid work in events.”

“I am not usually a morning person, but I never found myself dreading to go into the Bath Film Festival office at 9.00. In fact, most days I wished I could have stayed longer. Working with the festival made me feel like I was living a double life. I was a student taking classes and writing papers, but for 8 hours a week I slipped into another world where I was part of something bigger than myself. In that way, Bath Film Festival defined my semester abroad. Not only do I value the relationships I have made and the experiences that I have had; I appreciate the fact that I played a part in one of Bath’s most popular festivals. I consider myself lucky to have been an American on the inside.”

“Volunteering for Bath Film Festival was one of the best things I did during my degree: the experience I gained was invaluable and has helped me decide what to do next.”

“My experience at the Festival was incredible. The range of experiences I was able to participate in – from writing film notes to distributing brochures to stewarding events – was not only interesting but extremely rewarding. As an American, working in the centre of the city was an added bonus because it allowed me to become familiar with the geography and people of Bath. It was wonderful to work with such friendly, committed individuals to help bring the best, most interesting films to such a fantastic city.”

“I volunteered for BFF for two months in October-November. It was an amazing experience and I learned a lot. The team was very welcoming and as the time went by they entrusted me with more and more tasks and responsibilities. The atmosphere was always relaxed and fun. Holly was an amazing boss, always on top of the events. I really wished I could have stayed.”

“As someone with aspirations to work in film, volunteering for the Bath Film Festival gave me exclusive access to networking events and the opportunity to mingle with fellow filmmakers. So many like-minded and passionate people converge at the festival – it is a place to meet new friends, colleagues and contacts, while also helping to organise an event that celebrates the world of film. I thoroughly recommend lending a hand!”

“I had such a fun time writing about film when I volunteered; since then, it has really inspired me to take writing a bit more seriously.”

“Being a part of a team for an event such as this felt pretty special. The films being shown are sure to expand your mind in terms of cinema and all visual arts, so each evening that I was stewarding felt recreational rather than like a job! It was great to interact with like-minded people and generally do something a little different.”

“This was my first year volunteering with the festival and I found it a rewarding and fun experience. Having had bad experiences with volunteering for other festivals in Bath, I’m pleased to say volunteering for the film festival was brilliant. The variety of the films on show and the enthusiasm of the other volunteers definitely made it a worthwhile experience. I’d love to be back next year!”

“A few weeks after I moved to the UK in 2011 I discovered Bath Film Festival and immediately felt at home. From 2012 I started volunteering: from stewarding and taking pictures, to writing notes, distributing brochures and tweeting, and at the same time enjoying the unique opportunity of watching independent films that have often only screened at the most important festivals around the world. The venues are well located, the organisers are fantastic, professional people and the festival always has a very special audience.”

“Volunteering for Bath Film Festival was the best experience that I’ve had during my time at Bath Spa Uni. It meant that I attended a huge variety of unusual films that I would not have otherwise seen and I had the pleasure of being involved in an incredible, unique community of people. I would encourage anyone thinking of volunteering to stop thinking about it and just do it!”

“Volunteering for the festival not only offered me access to an eclectic range of high quality films but also, to other like-minded individuals with a shared passion for film. And it was exciting to be a part of opening up the film-going experience to new audiences.”

“I’ve always been a fan of film, and volunteering with Bath Film Festival gave me experiences I could apply to real life. It gave me a chance to take my geeky side and make something of it. The team who run the festival are great; I have made a lot of friends doing this and met a lot of really cool people. Oh, and I got free tickets! It’s my favourite of the Bath festivals, by far!”
