FilmBath and The Bunch + our top university-related films for students and parents

FilmBath and AMPLIFY! online film festival have teamed up with The Bunch, an awesome company helping young people in shared accommodation manage their utility bills.

The Bunch simplifies the sometimes precarious task of keeping on top of shared bills by combining the cost of the electricity, gas, Wi-Fi and the TV licence into one clear payment split between housemates: AND makes sure that each person is only liable for their share, so no more going into debt for that housemate who never pays.

Unlike other similar organisations (who, frankly, rip students off with hidden charges), The Bunch’s fees are transparent (£10 a month – but students save more than that on the energy bills, so it’s win-win). Plus The Bunch only use green energy and plant 5 trees for every new account: what’s not to love?

That’s the bills covered. But The Bunch’s clever system even helps housemates find a new place once their tenancy’s up.

With the bills and househunting sorted, what will students do with all this extra spare time?

Watch films, of course!

And what better way to binge than with a pass to over 30 incredible films to AMPLIFY online film festival from 6 – 22 November.

Our top university-related films for students and parents

In honour of our new partnership with The Bunch, and for the students who have been locked up during Freshers and any parents who have been worrying about them, here are AMPLIFY!’s university-related film recommendations.

We thought it would fun to split each our recommendations into what the students and parents of today perceive university to be like… in normal circumstances.

1. Leaving Home

Students

Ghost World poster

Ghost World (2001)
A quintessential slacker flick. Now that everyone’s started dressing like the 90s/00s again, the only real difference to today is the lack of smartphones.

Parents

Grease poster

Grease (1978)
Where greasy hair may be present in Ghost World, it probably wasn’t intentional – the same cannot be said for the T-Birds.

2. Freshers Week

Students

Raw poster

Raw (2016)
OK, so getting a taste for human flesh may not happen to every fresher, but everything else in this gristly French thriller seems pretty accurate.

Parents

Animal House (1978)

TOGA! TOGA! TOGA!

3. Term Time

Students

Dear White People (2014)
Confronting uncomfortable truths while lmao-ing is what Gen-Zs do best.

Parents

Starter For 10 (2006)
Harking back to simpler times of no uni fees and Bamber Gascoigne is what boomers do best.

4. After Graduation

Students

Reality Bites (1994)
Sofa surfing, unfulfilling jobs and bad romantic decision making. ie. early adulthood. Live it vicariously through Wiona and friends.

Parents

Adult Life Skills (2016)
Pre Doctor Who Jodie Whitaker proves that it is way easier to be a Time Lord than a grownup human.
