Building on his award-winning photography exhibition Ray’s a Laugh, photographer Richard Billingham’s first feature film is an extraordinary piece of work based on his childhood in the West Midlands. Ray (Justin Salinger) is his father, who lives on homebrew. Liz (Ella Smith) is his mother, obese, tattooed, and obsessed with jigsaws. Ray & Liz has been compared to the films of Lynne Ramsay, Andrea Arnold, and Terence Davies. It is a stunning debut, revealing an ability to combine beauty and neglect, cruelty and love. ‘A symphony of cinema’ – CineVue.

Lux Film Prize nominee (film is therefore subject to change)
