Witty anti-patriarchal satire about what happens when a woman gatecrashes a men-only party. Mind you, the party involves jumping into a freezing river to fight for a cross thrown in by a priest. Petrunya jumps in with all the men and ends up with the crucifix, and also a great deal of trouble. How dare she shatter centuries of tradition? Paradoxically, the more she is attacked, the more her self-confidence grows. This excellent Macedonian satire is a timely account of a mob aroused and a woman’s stand for her dignity.
