Oscar winner Spotlight tackled the subject of historic sex abuse in the Catholic Church from a journalist’s perspective. Now, François Ozon approaches it from the victims’ point of view. 40-year-old Alexandre (Melvil Poupaud) is a devout Catholic with a wife and five children, who was abused as a boy by a priest. When he discovers that priest still works with children, he becomes determined the Church address this scourge. His mission is met with resistance at every turn, then complicated by the addition of two other men who were also victims. A magnificently angry yet composed film, based on a true story that has only recently come to court.
