Left to right, back to front: Alastair, Jason, Valencia, Clair, Chris, Lorena, Philip, Elspeth

We have the wonderful luxury of selecting films based on our three simple criteria, which are

  • Do we think it’s great?
  • Does it reflect our values (which are, in shorthand, intersectional feminism)?
  • Do we believe there is an audience for these films/can we build an audience for them?

The festival is programmed by a diverse team of 8 film enthusiasts who all have very different tastes in film. They are:

Philip Raby has decades of experiences of watching and writing about film. Philip spent over 20  years running On The Video Front, a video rental shop, and is known through Bath as THE person to turn to for film recommendations. He runs the Programming Team and has the final say in the programme.

Jason Barker comes to us as a professional programmer for BFI Flare and London Film Festival. As well as programming the festival and taking responsibility for our LGBT strand.

Lorena Pino is from Venezuela. She has been volunteering for the film festival since 2012. In the last 2 years, with support from FilmHubSW and FilmBath, she has been running F-Rated film screenings from around the world to Trowbridge’s remarkably diverse diaspora.

Chris Baker is the Festival Founder and has been programming the festival for the last 29 years. Chris brings a profound understanding of our audience and our history. Chris is particularly engaged with community cinema and also manages Cinema For All in the SW.

Valencia Haynes’s work includes: Head of Development at Universal Studios in LA, Development Executive for Capitol Films, and Head of International at BSkyB, Sky Pictures.

Clair Titley is a documentary filmmaker who spent 6 years running Pop Up Docs in Bath – the first touring feature documentary programme in the UK. Clair helps to select the best docs.

Alastair Goolden is a sound engineer and theatre director, with a particular interest in commissioning new music for silent films. Alastair is also involved in various film societies, including the brilliant Films at Rook Lane Chapel in Frome. He is also the festival’s Technical Manager – and has been for 30 years.

Elspeth Hinde has been working with us since 2010. She brings youth, enthusiasm and a love of sci-fi and anime to the group, she attends various sci-fi conventions and weekenders to source the best sci-fi for the festival.
